The annual publication of the Yale School of Architecture serves as an archive of student work, lectures, and symposia. In response to this issue’s theme, “index,” we organized the book alphabetically by critic name, foregoing the typical progression by class year. The book opens with the index, which also serves as its table of contents. Moving through the year in alphabetical order created unexpected adjacencies between student work of different years and the myriad happenings at the school. The alphabetical structure also provided a natural series of section dividers, which we filled with full-bleed candid photographs to give a sense of the spirit of the school.
